2025 SERU Symposium and Business Meeting | October 22-23, 2025 | UC Berkeley
We are pleased to invite you to the 2025 SERU Symposium and Business Meeting, “Navigating Uncertainty: Using Data to Improve the Student Experience in an Evolving Higher Education Landscape,” taking place on October 22–23, 2025, at the University of California, Berkeley. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Studies in Higher Education at UC Berkeley and Etio.
This year’s symposium will focus on how universities can use SERU/UCUES and gradSERU data to help students navigate multiple layers of uncertainty in their academic and career pathways. As students face a rapidly changing job market, the rise of generative AI, and an increasingly complex political and cultural climate, research universities are being called to respond with strategies that are not only evidence-based but also student-centered. In addition, the symposium will explore strategies to improve student survey response rates, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and enhance data dissemination – all essential for facilitating future survey administrations.
We invite proposals that showcase how SERU and gradSERU data are being used to support students in navigating academic, career, and societal uncertainty. Submissions may include research findings, institutional case studies, or applied practices that highlight data-informed strategies. Thematical areas include but are not limited to:
Data-Driven Strategies to Support Student Wellbeing and Institutional Stability Amid Uncertainty
Understanding the Impact of AI and New Technologies on Students
Using Data to Support Undergraduate and Graduate Student Career Pathways in a Shifting Labor Market
Using SERU/UCUES and gradSERU Data to Inform Institutional Decision-Making
Best Practices in Survey Administration and Survey Governance
We also welcome suggestions for discussion topics or questions you would like the group to explore together during the symposium. Proposals that use data to address student experiences shaped by academic, career, and societal uncertainty are especially encouraged.
Proposal submission form is available via this link. Submissions are due by August 1, 2025.
